Sun Tenters

This is an open air museological nucleus located near Carpinteira Stream (Sineiro, near Pole IV of the University of Beira Interior, UBI, Covilhã). It has been preserved and integrated in a Parking Space of UBI and it was inaugurated on April 30th, 1998.

It is the outcome of an in situ preservation and musealisation process of a set of Sun tenters and a wool drying ground belonging to the former company of Ignácio da Silva Fiadeiro (which worked from 1910 to 1939). The musealised nucleus spans a total area of 652,7 m2.

This nucleus creation assumes a highly significance, considering that it constitutes a pillar in the politics of the safeguarding of the industrial patrimony of Covilhã and the creation of the Wool ecomuseum of Serra da Estrela. It is an intervention that values the relation between the industrial and natural patrimony, through the acknowledgement of the cultural landscape comprised in the environmental patrimony.
